Therefore, there is no need to rush, it is never too late to cure the afflictions anytime after 4th February. And according to Taoist belief, deities and guardians including celestial animals such as piyao, chilin, dragons etc will leave the earth to celebrate in the heaven during the end of the lunar year. And they will only return with new energy after the lunar new year. Therefore, one normally performs cleansing of the guardians after the year ends and start to display them after the start of the lunar new year. If one does not start after the new year, some masters believe that the celestial guardians may not return to the old figurines because they have expired. Cleansing the guardians means renewing the energy with sandalwood incense smoke besides cleaning away the dust.
