      In examining Feng Shui, there are two general categories of chi, the physical chi and the intangible chi.
1. Physical chi refers to the surrounding chi influenced by forms and shapes at the internal and external area of a house:
a. Internal physical chi can be very much influenced by aquariums, feng shui symbols, colors, materials, overhead beams, pillars, odd shape spaces, toilet inside the house etc.
b. External physical chi can be very much influenced by tall trees, pylon, lamp post, power station, sharp roof edges, incoming roads, construction sites, mountains, streams outside the house etc.
2. Intangible Chi - Cannot be seen, but plays a big role to affect our lives. They can be derived from formulas very easily being the reason why it is most popularly used. And this may or may not be bounded by time dimension.
a. Afflictions and good energies that change with time - can be derived from Natal Flying Star Chart, Annual Flying Star Chart, 3-Killings, Tai Sui, Sui Po etc.
b. Afflicted and good energies that are fixed according to 8 Mansions formula depending on the facing direction of a house - Sheng Chi, Fu Wei, Five Ghosts, Six Killings, Total Lost etc.

Because time dimension is a key factor in Classical Feng Shui, there is a luck cycle that keeps changing every year. The change of energy follows the chinese SOLAR calendar. Every year, 4th February would be the date of change in energy. Which means feng shui is not static. The dynamism of feng shui lies in the changing of stars in different sectors and directions of our homes, premises and even in our geographical map. These good and bad stars move from one location to another every year and must NEVER be taken lightly. If we know how to identify the good and bad locations in our homes, then we will be able to apply remedies for problematic areas and enhance the luck of good ones. We will then be able to capitalize the best out of the year and prevent misfortune and tough luck in our homes.

      In feng shui practice, we ought to PROTECT and DEFEND any bad luck as the first step before trying to activate for good luck. Neglecting this protective step will result in one experiencing problems more than having good luck. In general, each year has certain directions that are considered inauspicious because they exert evil influences (known as shar chi) and they can bring danger if unattended. Those who choose not to do anything or keeping those areas quiet are simply like ignoring sickness symptoms passively and hoping that nothing will happen. If one is lucky, of course it still stands a good chance that nothing will happen. But the more proactive ones will cure them to prevent the symptoms from turning into fatal diseases. The followings are the annual afflictions in general that we need to take pre-caution against. The basis of knowing feng shui is for us to get ourselves prepared and defend against bad luck. If we do not wish to do anything, then it is better not to learn feng shui.

The Fatal Star #5 Yellow, Illness Star #2 Black, Violent Star #7and Quarrelsome Star#3, formulated from flying star charts in "San Yuan" school of Feng Shui, are related to Luo Shu and the annual location of them are in one of the 9 palaces of the bagua.

Next, the theories of Three Killings (San Shar), Grand Duke Jupiter (Tai Sui) and Broken Year (Sui Po) are originated from the "San He" system of Feng Shui, which later got incorporated into the San Yuan system of Feng Shui during Ming Dynasty. San He uses the concepts of Four Pillars to read Feng Shui. The primary factor involved in recognizing the location of San Shar, Tai Sui, and Sui Po is the branch of the Year. This factor will determine all of their annual positions.

As usual, in order to make our remedies more comprehensive, we would like to also check out the "other" bad stars that are normally neglected by others, but should not be neglected in order to get a more thorough forecast. This is because these other bad stars tend to cluster together. Under normal circumstances, these bad stars do not play a big role when they are alone. However, when they appear together or with other bad sectors, they amplify the situation to guarantee disasters. These bad stars are Ji Du Tian, Wu Du Tian, Wu Ji Du Tian, Sui Shar, Zai Shar, Jia Shar and Li Shi. Please don't worry about these new names if you cannot remember them.

When will the stars transition and when is the expiration date of cures and enhancers?

For the lunar Year of Rat in 2008, the locations of the afflictions and fortune mentioned above are pre-calculated and shown in the 9 palaces of the flying star map below. These new chart will only be effective starting 4th February 2008. This follows the solar calendar, which begins with the start of spring. Spring is known as "Lap Chun" in chinese. Since the new set of energy will only transition and set in on 4th February 2008, the best is to start displaying cures ANYTIME AFTER the 4th and NEVER BEFORE the 4th. It can be done down the road, but not the opposite. The reason is because if one tries to cure any energy before the 4th, the old energy will still get stucked in the cure and will expire after the 4th. For example, if one puts a 5 Element Pagoda before the 4th February with crystals in it, the entrapment of #5 Yellow energy would still belong to 2007. Therefore, there is no need to rush, it is never too late to cure the afflictions anytime after 4th February. And according to Taoist belief, deities and guardians including celestial animals such as piyao, chilin, dragons etc will leave the earth to celebrate in the heaven during the end of the lunar year. And they will only return with new energy after the lunar new year. Therefore, one normally performs cleansing of the guardians after the year ends and start to display them after the start of the lunar new year. If one does not start after the new year, some masters believe that the celestial guardians may not return to the old figurines because they have expired. Cleansing the guardians means renewing the energy with sandalwood incense smoke besides cleaning away the dust.

Analyzing the 2008 Annual Chart

When one looks at the chart below, those at expert level would at a glance find that eastern areas are excellent because of the gathering of #4, #8 and #9 all in one line from SE-E-NE. Other sectors are not so auspicious. Star of Achievement #1 rules this year as it moves to the center. .

South

      The south is the location and direction of the worst luck in 2008. This is because the two most deadly afflictions (feared by all classical feng shui masters), known as the Fatal Star 5-Yellow and Three Killings, move into this part of all houses and premises.

The south has fire as the base element, therefore it strengthens the earth based 5-Yellow Star further. The south has loshu grid with original #9 and this number will magnify #5 when combined making it even more disastrous. This combination causes high amplification of strains, obstructions, family disharmony, family breakup, injuries, ailment, fatality and bankruptcy.

Next, the Three Killings is known as 3 Violent Robbers in the mountain. It is the combination of Age Killing (Sui Sha), Plundering Killing (Jie Sha) and Calamity Killing (Zai Sha). San He School masters consider this affliction to be the worst among the three afflictions, the 5-Yellow, the Tai Sui and the Three Killings. Therefore one should never take it lightly. The Three Killings bring robbery, lawsuits, legal problems, quarrels, enemies, potential injuries and death.

Another affliction is the Sui Po (referred to as Broken Year), which is usually being taken lightly by those masters who are not so experience. In actual fact, although Sui Po energy is not as severe as Three Killings, it could bring similar bad luck including fatalities. It is always located at the direction directly opposite the Tai Sui direction. Those who offend the Sui Po will experience unrest at home, unwanted demotion, career downfall, lawsuits, gossips and unfavorable changes in life.

It is not the end of the story yet. There are three other evil stars entering into this sector. They are Fu Bing, Da Hua and Wudutian. Alone, they are already dangerous. When combining with the 5-Yellow, Three Killings and Sui Po, the results are unpredictably disastrous. If there is a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of danger, the answer to this scale is 10. It can invite ghost, cause fire breakout, invite vile characters to sabotage your plans and raid your finances.

Under normal circumstances, we can use the usual cures such as 24K 5 Element Pagoda and 24K 3 Chilins alone to cure the problem. But because there is too much evil energy, it is unavoidable to use seek for heavy duty cures. We do not want to take chances. After discussing with various famous feng shui masters and religious leaders, we have come out with a sure solution. One will have to add the powerful evil buster 24K Garuda, the quick and effective Anren Water with Silver Dragon and the neutralizing 8 Auspicious Object on top of the metal energy generated either from the 24K 6 Rods Ornament or the 24k 5 Element Pagoda or 24K Gold Chi Lin.

The Garuda has to be placed beside the 6 Rods Ornament in the room that is located in the south area of the house and facing the south direction. As for the Sui Po affliction, the reliable cure will be displaying a pair of Tai Sui Pi Yao along the central axis of the house facing the south.

If ones house has the maindoor, windows or balcony in the south location or facing the south direction, they will have to hang the 6 White Jade Discs to neutralize the energy entering through these chi entry points especially when they are left opened. All family members will be affected if any of the house chi entry points are attacked and they should carry along the protective Garuda Amulet with Chien and 8 Auspicious Objects. Those whose bedrooms are located in the south or with the bedroom door facing the south will also have to carry along or hang this amulet at their doorknobs.

6 White Jade Discs and Garuda Amulet

The situation becomes worse when ones kitchen is in the south. This is because kitchen has strong fire energy that produces more earth energy of the #5 star according to Five Element Theory. For such situation, you will have to specifically place a specially dimensioned 3.86-in Brass Bagua Coin under the stove or at the vicinity close to the stove. The dimension of this coin must follow certain feng shui diameter to make it fully effective. This cure utilizes special feng shui dimension, the metal energy and bagua to suppress the aggravation of #5 star and at the same time using the trinity of heaven, earth and mankind to turn bad luck into good luck. Yin energy will worsen the situation.

Northwest

The Illness Star-2 flies to the Northwest this year. In feng shui, one will always need to consider health as priority because without health, one will not be able to obtain good luck in making money. One will have to be on the lookout for gastrointestinal and gynaecology problems. This star will affect the partriarch, male leader or the man of the family especially because the northwest is the location of patriarch. One may not know that this star also brings about gossips, relationship problems, insomnia and depression.
